Inter - Campione d'Italia 2007

Inter have retained the Scudetto crown with a 2-1 victory over Siena at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday afternoon as second-placed Roma went down by the same scoreline at Atalanta.

Two goals from Marco Materazzi were enough for the Nerazzurri to earn all three points against a home side who had earlier drawn level through a Paolo Negro goal.

Roma were impressive 3-1 winners at Inter on Wednesday - a result which delayed Inter's title celebrations for a few days at least - were unable to repeat the feat at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

Cristiano Doni opened the scoring in Bergamo and Riccardo Zampagna made it 2-0 just before half-time. The Giallorossi pulled one back through Simone Perrotta after 64 minutes but they were unable to find an equaliser with Matteo Ferrari sent off at the end for the capital club.

With 26 wins, 6 draws and just 1 defeat, Inter wrap up their second consecutive, and 15th Serie A title with five games to spare. Rival clubs in Italy all congratulated the Nerazzurri on their achievements this season - lifting their first Scudetto 'on the pitch' since 1989.

After the game President Massimo Moratti revealed that coach Mancini had already signed a contract extension at the club "some time ago".
