Lecce claimed the remaining promotion spot to Serie A on Sunday night and coach Giuseppe Papadopulo believes his side deserved it.
The southern side had taken a 1-0 advantage from the play-off final first leg against Albinoleffe in Bergamo last Wednesday and they held on to a 1-1 draw at home to win 2-1 on aggregate.
Elvis Abbruscato was the goal-hero on both occasions, after hitting the only goal in the opening match the striker opened the scoring after 10 minutes in front of an ecstatic support at the Stadio Via del Mare.
Papadopulo was delighted at the end of the game as he could finally celebrate promotion into the top-flight.
"I never thought that we wouldn't make it, even in the difficult moments," Papadopulo said.
"The team always maintained the right determination. Now Lecce resumes its place in the football world it deserves."
Albinoleffe equalised on 74 minutes but by then the celebrations were already in full swing.
Chievo and Bologna had already claimed the two automatic promotion places by finishing Serie B champions and runners-up, respectively.
