Serie B Play-offs: Second Leg Review

Albinoleffe have stunned Brescia to reach the Serie B play-off Final after a 2-1 win at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia.

The Bergamo minnows went into this evening’s second leg with a 1-0 deficit and their underdog status was cemented when star striker Massimo Cellino was dismissed in the first clash.

But Leffe hadn’t read the script and Filippo Carobbio levelled the tie after just 16 minutes.

The Azzurri started to believe and took the game to their more illustrious Lombardy neighbours and took the lead in the tie through the unlikely source of defender Federico Peluso whose wayward cross bamboozled Emiliano Viviano just before half-time.

Just five minutes after the break, Brescia were back level thanks to Hungarian star Robert Feczesin, but they couldn’t find another, even though they saw an effort cleared off the line in the final minute.

The game finished 2-1 and 2-2 on aggregate, but Albinoleffe go through to the Final as they finished one place higher in the League table.

One of Serie B’s smallest sides will now play against Lecce or Pisa for a place in the top flight.
