Grosseto 3-0 Piacenza
Grosseto showed they are no flash in the pan, maintaining their 100 per cent record to top the table in style. After their surprise away win at Pisa last weekend, they swept Piacenza aside in front of their own fans. Stendardo’s free kick hit the woodwork before Pichlmann bagged a brace either side of half-time. The second goal was a peach of an acrobatic volley from a loose ball. Cordova sealed the scoreline with a trademark free kick.
Rimini 4-3 Modena
Vantaggiato left it late to seal a seven-goal thriller in this local derby. Bruno had until then been the hero for Modena thanks to his hat-trick, as he earned and converted a penalty for Cardinale’s foul. After Docente’s equaliser and a La Camera screamer from 20 metres, Bruno turned it around again with a fierce free kick and goal straight after the restart. Pagano netted from the penalty spot to make it 3-3 and it looked to be ending in a draw until Vantaggiato popped up at the death.
Livorno 1-1 Mantova
Antonio Filippini avoided a surprise home defeat in this ill-tempered match. Corona had sprung the offside trap to put Mantova ahead at the start of the second half and they seemed to be in control after Diamanti’s dismissal, but Filippini slid on to Tavano’s cross. Mantova were also reduced to 10 men when former Livorno man Passoni saw red late on.
Frosinone 0-0 Bari
This was an ill-tempered and controversial encounter not helped by some shaky refereeing. Tavares thought he had grabbed the victory and was already running towards the fans with his shirt off when the linesman communicated a debatable offside position. The Frosinone man not only had his goal chalked off, but was also booked for the futile celebration. Donda was sent off for Bari for dissent.
Triestina 3-1 Avellino
Triestina saw off Avellino with minimal fuss at the Stadio Rocco. It took just four minutes to open the scoring through Della Rocca’s tap-in at the end of a well-worked team move, then Minelli got his head to Allegretti’s corner. De Zerbi pulled one back from the spot for a Minelli handling offence, but Allegretti got his second goal of the season with a fierce strike against his former club.
Ancona 0-0 Ascoli
The thunderstorm that struck Ancona affected play in the Marche derby, as there were precious few chances. A desperate Melucci tackle prevented Rizzato from scoring early on, while Guberti thumped the outside of the post for Ascoli. The pressure was piled on after Micolucci’s second bookable offence, but the visitors clung on for the point.
Cittadella 0-0 Salernitana
Salernitana thanked goalkeeper Pinna for this point and the fact they are now unbeaten in four official games between Serie B and the Coppa Italia. The shot-stopper performed heroics to keep out De Gasperi’s thunderbolts either side of half-time. Di Napoli wasted the visitors’ best opportunity.

Vicenza 1-1 Empoli
Vicenza were reduced to nine men and were pegged back for a 1-1 draw with Empoli at the Stadio Romeo Menti. After a bright first half, the opening goal came after the break. Martinelli's precise cross fell perfectly to Sgrigna who nodded home for 1-0 to Vicenza. But the game changed in the latter stages as Bjelanovic received a second yellow for a handball before Martinelli brought down Juve-owned youngster Pasquato for a penalty and was dismissed for a professional foul. Lodi converted the spot-kick and it could've been worse for Vicenza as Pasquato missed a golden chance in the dying seconds.
