Italy Under-21 coach Pierluigi Casiraghi believes that his Olympic team will rise to the occasion in Beijing.
The Azzurri go in search of the gold medal with a young side after picking just one overage player in Tommaso Rocchi.
Preparations have gone relatively smoothly and May's victory in the Toulon Tournament boosted confidence, but Casiraghi insists there is much more to come.
"We aren't at our best yet but we are growing," the former Chelsea player stated.
"The first match in a competition like this is very important and it is crucial to start well because we have a tough Group.
"We will face various obstacles and aside from our opponents the climate will also be tough, but we will give our all because we don't want to miss the chance to show what we can do in such an important competition.
"It is an honour for us to be here and to experience the magical atmosphere that only the Olympics can give you.
"Our team is full of talent and we can do well if everyone plays to their potential. We are very enthusiastic to face this challenge."
Italy's opener is against Honduras in Qinhuangdao on Thursday morning.
