Lippi era begins August 16

The second Marcello Lippi era opens on Saturday August 16 when he names his Italy squad for a friendly against Austria.

The coach returned to the bench after Roberto Donadoni's failure to get beyond the quarter-finals at Euro 2008 and begins again in the Stade Du Ray in Nice.

That summer friendly in Southern France against one of the Euro 2008 co-hosts will kick off at 1950 UK time (+1hr for Italy/CET) on Wednesday August 20.

The FIGC has released the itinerary for the Azzurri's first match under Lippi since the 2006 World Cup Final.

The squad will meet up at the Coverciano training ground in Tuscany on Monday August 18 and fly out to France the day after.

Lippi will be unable to call on some of the new faces he might've considered, such as Fiorentina starlet Riccardo Montolivo, due to the Olympics.
