Date set for 2008-09 fixtures

The Lega Calcio has today announced that the 2008-09 Serie A and Serie B fixtures are to be drawn up and released next week.

The calendar for the new Italian league season will be published on Friday 25 July at a ceremony held at the Salone d'Onore room of the Italian Olympic Comittee's (CONI) Foro Italico headquarters in Rome.

The presentation of the fixtures will take place at 1600, UK time (+1hr for Italy/CET).

The Lega, along with its member clubs, have decided that there will be no derbies or other "top-drawer" matches in the three midweek rounds of the new season and that seedings used in previous years will be abolished altogether.

The new season kicks off on the weekend of August 30 and 31.

    Like last season, there will be one game in each of the following slots:

    - Saturday 1800 (Italian time)
    - Saturday 2030
    - Sunday 2030

    And the rest are on at the traditional Sunday 1500 slot.
