[Mercato] Mutu 'not for sale'

Fiorentina have confirmed that they want to hold onto prolific Romanian star Adrian Mutu.

The striker has scored nine goals in 15 Serie A appearances this season, while he has also netted twice in three starts in the UEFA Cup.

This sort of form has attracted the interest of a number of Europe's top clubs, with Real Madrid and Roma reportedly linked to the player.

But Fiorentina have insisted they want to hold onto the former Parma player.

"Selling Mutu is absolutely not in our plans," confirmed sporting director Pantaleo Corvino to Corriere dello Sport.

He said they do not wish to sell players who have renewed their deals, adding players such as Mutu and French keeper Sebastian Frey "have been signed to keep them."

Speaking about Frey, who is linked to Milan, Corvino added: "He has a long deal and he will respect it."

Mutu and Frey's performances have helped Fiorentina into fifth place in Serie A, with 28 points from their opening 17 games.

The Viola face Rosenborg in February in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup.
