CL Matchday 6: Tuesday Review

Lazio’s European adventure has come to an end after Real Madrid clinched top spot in Group C with a convincing 3-1 victory in Spain.

GROUP C: Real Madrid 3-1 Lazio / Olympiakos 3-0 Werder Bremen
The Spanish champions opened up a 3-0 half-time lead through Julio Baptista, Raul and Robinho and the second half was merely a procession, although Goran Pandev did score a late consolation and Tommaso Rocchi then missed a penalty in the final seconds of the game.

Lazio needed to win to have any chance of qualification into the last 16 of this season's Champions League, but the defeat means they now miss out on third place and the UEFA Cup spot too.

In the other game, Olympiakos booked their place in the last 16 with a 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen. The Greeks began brightly and took the lead after just 12 minutes through Ieroklis Stoltidis. Bremen dominated for long periods thereafter but they were left to rue a string of missed chances as Olympiakos netted twice more midway through the second half thanks to Darko Kovacevic and Stoltidis' second. The German side must now settle for a place in the UEFA Cup.

GROUP A: Marseille 0-4 Liverpool / Porto 2-0 Besiktas

GROUP B: Chelsea 0-0 Valencia / Schalke 3-1 Rosenborg
