Fiorentina were held to a 1-1 first leg draw at Ascoli in the fourth round of the Coppa Italia.Danish defender Per Kroldrup put La Viola ahead in the 30th minute with a header off a corner kick and midfielder Stefano Guberti equalised for Ascoli with only 10 minutes remaining with a volley.
The return leg is scheduled for mid-January and the winner will face either Lazio or Napoli in the quarter-finals.
Empoli beat Juventus 2-1 last week in the only other first leg match played so far.
Cagliari meet Sampdoria on Wednesday, while the rest of the round is completed next week.
