Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has revealed he will quit international football after the World Cup.
The 2006 World Cup winner believes the time is right to quit the international scene to give younger players a chance.
Gattuso, who is expected to start Italy's World Cup opener with Paraguay on Monday in Cape Town, has won over 70 caps for Italy and the World Cup will be the fifth major competition at which he has represented his country.
"At (almost) 33 years old, for the role I have in football, it's right to give my spot to people with more energy," said Gattuso.
Asked if this meant he would retire from Italy after the tournament, he added: "Yes".
The AC Milan ace admitted it is his dream to one day become Italy's coach at a World Cup finals.
"After that my dream is to go to the World Cup as Italy coach," added Gattuso.
