[WC2010] Criscito targets top spot

Domenico Criscito is living the dream at the World Cup and is hoping to help Italy shine in South Africa.

The reigning champions made an indifferent start to the defence of their trophy on Monday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Paraguay.

They are, however, still expected to ease into the knockout stages, with fixtures against unfancied New Zealand and Slovakia still to come in Group F.

Despite the disappointment of dropping points in their opening game, the mood within the camp remains upbeat and confidence is still high.

Criscito claims the aim for the Azzurri is still to finish top of their group and head into the last 16 on the crest of a wave.

"We have not done any calculations, but our target remains to finish first in our group," said the Genoa full-back.

Criscito is also hoping to retain the starting berth awarded to him by Marcello Lippiagainst Paraguay, with the 23-year-old having played the full 90 minutes in Cape Town.

"I am very happy to have been a starter," he added. "To have achieved this proves I have been strong in training. The more experienced players have helped to ease me into the group.

"It's very exciting being here. I dreamt of playing at the World Cup, like anybody.

"I can still remember watching the final four years ago, as back then I was playing in Genoa's youth team."
