Serie B Play-out: Padova relegate Triestina

Padova will remain in Serie B next season after a shock 3-0 Play-out final victory away to Triestina, relegating the hosts to the Lega Pro.

Their hopes were hanging by a thread after their 0-0 first leg result last Friday, but they put in a dominant performance at the Stadio Nereo Rocco to end Triestina's eight-year stay in the second tier.

Over 2,600 Padova fans travelled for the game and within 120 seconds they were celebrating the first goal.

A corner kick came to Vantaggiato, who smashed in the left-foot finish from just inside the box.

Godeas tested Agliardi with a couple of headers and a Vantaggiato daisy-cutter free kick was palmed away, but the second goal arrived just past the hour mark.

Triestina gave back the ball following a break for injury and from this move Cuffa ran on to Vantaggiato’s pass, nutmegged a defender and beat the goalkeeper.

Bonaventura put the result beyond doubt when Calderoni only pushed Di Nardo’s cross on to his feet.

Triestina supporters protested vehemently after the final whistle by throwing objects into the underground car park where the players were set to gather.
