The Lega Calcio have denied that a date in Beijing had been set for next season's Supercoppa Italiana final despite earlier reports to the contrary.
Italian Ambassador to China Riccardo Sessa had announced the match between Inter and Roma would take place in the Chinese capital on August 21.
However the Lega Calcio said: "We want to stipulate that we have not yet taken any decision with regards the location or date for the match."
The stumbling block appears to be Inter's commitment to play Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Supercup in Monaco on August 27.
Inter are unwilling to play in China just six days before their Monaco date.
"The reality is that we told the Lega Calcio that we can't play the Supercoppa in China on August 21 because we have to play the European Supercup in Monaco on August 27," said Inter director Ernesto Paolillo.
The Lega Calcio, who announced in December an agreement to stage three Supercoppa matches in China over the coming years, said a final decision on the date and confirmation of the venue would be taken in the next few days.
Last season the season-opener was played at Beijing's iconic Bird's Nest Stadium where Lazio beat Inter 2-1.
Inter qualified for the event by winning both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia while Roma finished runners-up in both competitions.
