The President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) Giancarlo Abete has again all but confirmed that Cesare Prandelli will be the Italy Coach by June 8.
"When presenting the 28-man preliminary World Cup squad at the training camp in Sestriere, we said there would be a communication black-out during negotiations," explained the FIGC chief.
"With regards to the new coach an acceleration is in process. We made a pledge and everyone involved is confident we'll be able to respect that within the June 8 deadline."
Marcello Lippi will take the Azzurri to the World Cup in South Africa this summer, with current Fiorentina boss Prandelli ready to take over.
"I asked the Della Valle family and Fiorentina for permission to contact Prandelli and I confirm that," added Abete.
The FIGC President also commented on media reports that Arrigo Sacchi and Paolo Maldini will be drafted in to the backroom staff, and Abete did not take the opportunity to deny the rumours.
"There are different roles and ways of dealing with situations between a journalist and the President of a Federation."
