[Lega Pro 2 - 2009-10] Latest verdicts

Lega Pro 2Lega Pro Seconda Divisione (Lega Pro 2) is the third highest football league in Italy. It ranks below Lega Pro Prima Divisione (Lega Pro 1) and above Serie D.

This page rounds up all the latest news from Lega Pro 2 as teams chase automatic promotion and for play-off spots, while at the other end of the table, teams fight for survival. We will update all of the verdicts until the end of the season.

> Lega Pro 2 Background information
The 2009-10 Lega Pro 2 season consists a total of 54 teams split into three divisions (Girone), formed of 18 teams each. At the end of the season, six teams go up to Lega Pro 1 and nine teams go down to Serie D.

In each of the three divisions, two teams are promoted and three teams are relegated. The first-placed team is automatically promoted, while the next four teams (2nd-5th) enter a play-off tournament to determine the second team that will be promoted. In the relegation zone, the last placed team (18th) is automatically relegated. The teams placed 14th down to 17th enter a play-out round. The two losing teams from the ties go down.



> Lega Pro 2 Promotions & Relegations
Lega Pro 2 Girone A
Sudtirol-Alto Adige won promotion to Lega Pro 1 in Week 34 after a 1-0 home win over Valenzana on the final day of the season on May 9. At the end, Alto Adige finished three points clear of second-placed Spezia.

Spezia will now have to contest the end-of-season promotion play-offs, alongside Legnano, Feralpi Salo and Pavia for the final promotion spot to the third division. Full play-off fixtures and results are posted below.

At the other end of the table, Pro Sesto were relegated to Serie D after a 3-0 home defeat against Olbia on April 25 while Belvedere Vercelli, Carpenedolo, Villacidrese and Mezzocorona will hope to avoid the final two relegation spots by winning their end-of-season two-legged relegation play-out ties. Lega Pro 2 Girone B
Lucchese won promotion to Lega Pro 1 in Week 32 after a 2-0 win at bottom club Carrarese with two games to go on April 25. At the end of the regular season, Lucchese finished 12 points clear of second-placed San Marino.

San Marino will now have to contest the end-of-season promotion play-offs, alongside Gubbio, Fano and Sangiovannese for the final promotion spot to the third division. Full play-off fixtures and results are posted below.

At the other end of the table, Carrarese were relegated to Serie D despite a 2-1 home win over Bassano on the final day of the season on May 9 as other results went against them. Colligiana, Bellaria Igea Marina, Poggibonsi and Giacomense will hope to avoid the final two relegation spots by winning their end-of-season two-legged relegation play-out ties. Lega Pro 2 Girone C
Juve Stabia won promotion to Lega Pro 1 in Week 33 after a 2-0 home win against Cassino on May 2. At the end of the regular season, Juve finished four points clear of second-placed Catanzaro.

Catanzaro will now have to contest the end-of-season promotion play-offs, alongside Cisco Roma, Brindisi and Barletta for the final promotion spot to the third division. Full play-off fixtures and results are posted below.

At the other end of the table, Igea Virtus were relegated to Serie D after a 3-1 home defeat against Manfredonia on April 11. Vico Equense, Vibonese, Noicattaro and Isola Liri will hope to avoid the final two relegation spots by winning their end-of-season two-legged relegation play-out ties. Matchday 1 (May 16): Juve Stabia 2-1 Sudtirol-Alto Adige (Resting: Lucchese).
Matchday 2 (May 23): Sudtirol-Alto Adige 0-3 Lucchese (Resting: Juve Stabia).
Matchday 3 (May 26): Lucchese 4-2 Juve Stabia (Resting: Sudtirol-Alto Adige, Lucchese win Lega Pro 2 Supercoppa).


> Coppa Italia Lega Pro
The Lega Pro Coppa Italia is a group stage and knock-out based competition involving mainly teams from Lega Pro 1 and Lega Pro 2. The semi-finals and the final are played on a home and away basis.

Lumezzane won the Lega Pro Coppa Italia after beating Cosenza 5-2 on aggregate. The all-Lega Pro 1 final was all but decided in the first leg on April when Lumezzane won 4-1 on home soil. The return match on April 28 ended 1-1.
