[UEL] Juve reach last 16, Roma crash out

Juventus held onto their 2-1 first-leg lead against Ajax to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League but Roma crashed out after another 3-2 defeat against Panathinaikos.

Juventus 0-0 Ajax
Juventus win 2-1 on aggregate
Juventus will meet Fulham in the Europa League Round of 16 after holding Ajax to a goalless draw in Turin. In a tactical encounter the Bianconeri placed the onus on protecting their first-leg lead and, though they came closer to scoring than Ajax, with Mohamed Sissoko hitting the woodwork in the first half, this will go down as a solid, resolute defensive display against visitors who seldom threatened to dent their 2-1 advantage. Juve will host Fulham in the last 16 on March 11 before traveling to London a week later.

Roma 2-3 Panathinaikos
Panathinaikos win 6-4 on aggregate
Two goals from Djibril Cisse and one from Sotiris Ninis earned Panathinaikos a second successive 3-2 victory against Roma and a place in the last 16 of the Europa League. All three goals from the visitors came in a devastating six-minute spell at the end of the first half after John Arne Riise had given Roma an early lead, and the advantage on the away-goals rule. Ninis was at the heart of it all. Tripped for Cisse's goal from the penalty spot, he then drilled in his own from 20 metres before releasing the Frenchman to settle the contest before the break. Daniele De Rossi's 67th-minute tap-in ended the scoring while Kostas Katsouranis saw red late on.
