[Coppa Italia] Inter hold slender lead

Diego Milito's goal earned Inter a 1-0 home win over Fiorentina in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie.

The hosts have claimed 18 points more than the Viola in Serie A this season but their perceived superiority was little in evidence as the visitors battled hard against the league leaders but without reward.

Milito settled the first leg with the only goal after 34 minutes as he tapped home Mario Balotelli's cross after Cesare Natali had been caught in possession.

Mario Santana missed Fiorentina's best chance in the game, while Milito saw another effort disallowed after his shot struck Wesley Sneijder, who was in an offside position.

Sneijder later clipped the post with a free-kick, but Milito's goal was enough to install Jose Mourinho's men as narrow favourites ahead of April's return leg in Florence.

The first leg of the other semi-final between Roma and Udinese will take place in Rome on Thursday.
