[UEL] MD6 Review

Genoa 1-2 ValenciaGenoa are out of the UEFA Europa League despite a spirited display over Valencia wasn't enough, while an already-eliminated Lazio ended their disappointing campaign on a losing note.

Genoa 1-2 Valencia
David Villa's goal five minutes into added time earned Valencia victory over a spirited Genoa side and a place in the Round of 32 as Group B winners. Having fallen behind in first-half added time to Bruno Saltor's looping header, the Rossoblu needed to score twice to prolong their European campaign. Hernan Crespo supplied the first of those six minutes into the second half but, despite incessant pressure, Gian Piero Gasperini's men − who survived a late penalty miss by Villa − were unable to land the killer blow and slipped to defeat when Villa punished a miscued clearance by goalkeeper Alessio Scarpi with the last act of the match.

Lazio 0-1 Levski SofiaLazio 0-1 Levski Sofia
Lazio ended their disappointing European campaign with a 1-0 home defeat against Levski Sofia, as the visitors scored their first goal and recorded their first points of the group stage. Not since they struck in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off against Debrecen in August had Levski found the net in Europe, a run that had seen them lose all five of their opening Group G fixtures. Lazio, who had plenty of youth on show at the Stadio Olimpico, had won twice – including 4-0 in the Bulgarian capital on Matchday 2 – but were also out of contention to progress and bow out on a losing note courtesy of Hristo Yovov's 61st-minute goal.
