Catania have sacked coach Gianluca Atzori and have been quick to name Sinisa Mihajlovic as his replacement.
Atzori took over from Walter Zenga in the close season and has been under pressure from the off after a string of poor results.
A 3-2 defeat at bottom club Siena on Sunday left the Sicilians on just nine points after 15 games and second bottom of the Serie A standings.
"Gianluca Atzori has been relieved of his duties as trainer of the first team," read a club statement. "We thank Atzori profusely for his work and professionalism and wish him the best of luck in his career.
"Sinisa Mihajlovic is the new coach."
Serbian Mihajlovic, who made his name as a tough-tackling defender at clubs such as Lazio, took his first steps into management last season with Bologna but was sacked in April after only six months in charge.
The former assistant to Roberto Mancini at Inter has signed a contract until the summer of 2011. He will make his debut on the bench against fellow strugglers Livorno on Sunday.
