[UEL] MD3 Review

Lazio 2-1 VillarrealThere were late goals in the UEFA Europa League as Lazio recorded a 2-1 win over Villarreal and Roma secured a draw at Fulham, but Genoa suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at Lille.

Lazio 2-1 Villarreal
A last-gasp goal from substitute Tommaso Rocchi earned ten-man Lazio a dramatic 2-1 win against Villarreal at the Stadio Olimpico. Rocchi struck in the second minute of added time, re-establishing a lead Mauro Zarate had given Lazio before Sebastian Eguren levelled in the first half. Matuzalem's sending off after 68 minutes appeared to have further swung things in the visitors' favour but Rocchi had other ideas with a goal that lifts the Biancocelesti to second in Group G, three points ahead of Villarreal. Davide Ballardini's men now travel to Spain in a fortnight's time.

Fulham 1-1 RomaFulham 1-1 Roma
A superb 93rd-minute strike by Marco Andreolli rescued Roma from defeat at Group E rivals Fulham. The defender smashed the ball in off the underside of the crossbar after David Pizarro's corner fell to him beyond the far post, so denying a Fulham side who had looked certain to hold on to the lead given them by Brede Hangeland's first-half header when goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer saved Jeremy Menez's spot-kick. The English outfit, who lost defender Stephen Kelly to a red card in the incident preceding the penalty, slipped to second place in the group behind Basel, with Roma third ahead of the teams' rematch in the Italian capital.

Lille 3-0 GenoaLille 3-0 Genoa
Lille surged to the top of Group B after goals from Ludovic Obraniak, Robert Vittek and Eden Hazard secured a superb 3-0 victory over Genoa. If Gian Piero Gasperini's side enjoyed the better of the opening stages, Lille dominated the remainder of the contest and the result never seemed in doubt from the moment Obraniak broke the deadlock after 38 minutes. Vittek stroked in a second after the hour before substitute Hazard added the gloss to a fine display by rounding off a superb run with a crisp finish. Third-placed Genoa, four points behind, will host the French outfit on 5 November in a must-win game.
