[UCL] MD2 Tuesday Review

Fiorentina 2-0 LiverpoolA Stevan Jovetic brace helped Fiorentina record a memorable 2-0 win over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League but there was more frustration for Inter, who were held at Rubin Kazan on Matchday 2.

Fiorentina 2-0 Liverpool
Two first-half strikes by Stevan Jovetic earned Fiorentina a memorable victory against Liverpool and their first points in Group E. Without the suspended Alberto Gilardino, the weight of Cesare Prandelli's attacking expectations rested on the Montenegrin's young shoulders. The 19-year-old responded superbly, beating the offside trap and Pepe Reina on the half-hour mark and then, before half-time, turning Juan Vargas's driven cross past the Spanish goalkeeper in a dominant first period. The English giants had chances to get back into the game in the second half, but the Viola held on.

Rubin Kazan 1-1 InterRubin Kazan 1-1 Inter
Inter had to hang on with ten men in the last half-hour to come away from Russian champions Rubin Kazan with a Group F point. Rubin were staging their first Champions League fixture and within eleven minutes Alejandro Dominguez stunned Jose Mourinho's Italian champions with a brilliant run and rising shot. Dejan Stankovic equalised with a free header from a Douglas Maicon cross as the Nerazzurri responded well but after Mario Balotelli's dismissal they were forced to cling on to secure a second point in the group.
