[U20] Azzurrini edge T&T

Goals from Michelangelo Albertazzi and Silvano Raggio Garibaldi earned Italy a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Trinidad & Tobago at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Egypt.

Italy 2-1 Trinidad & TobagoAlbertazzi put Italy ahead after 39 minutes, beating goalkeeper Glenroy Samuel with a header, as the Azzurrini piled on pressure at Cairo's International Stadium.

Clarence Juma equalised after 67 minutes, slotting past Vincenzo Filorillo after a disastrous attempted clearance by Matteo Gentile, but Raggio Garibaldi fired in a superb volley with 12 minutes remaining.

Free-kick specialist Andrea Mazzarani, who had a superbly struck volley cleared off the line, kept Samuel under threat throughout the night, while the Caribbean outfit also missed several chances and struck the underside of the crossbar.

The result all but secures Italy's passage to the Round of 32 as Francesco Rocca's side are now on four points in Group A after picking up a draw in their opening game with Paraguay last Friday.

Should a series of other results not go Italy's way over the next few days, the Azzurrini can guarantee their place in the knock-out stage with a positive result against hosts Egypt on Thursday night.

In Group A's other match tonight, Egypt were beaten 2-1 by 10-man Paraguay in a dramatic encounter - with the winner coming with virtually the last kick of the game.
