Genoa have signed Italy goalkeeper Marco Amelia from Palermo with Brazilian keeper Rubinho moving in the opposite direction.
No fee is involved in the surprise transfer deal and both players have agreed four-year contracts at their new clubs.
Amelia is a product of Roma's youth system and joined Palermo from Livorno last summer.
Capped nine times by Italy, the 27-year-old has also played for Parma and Lecce in Serie A.
Genoa, who finished fifth last term, begin their UEFA Europa League bid in the Play-off round on 20 and 27 August, with the draw on Friday. They have already signed Rodrigo Palacio, Hernan Crespo, Houssine Kharja, Alberto Zapater, Sergio Floccari, Andrea Esposito and a number of other young prospects this summer.
Rubinho, who turned 27 today, joins Palermo after three seasons at Genoa where he played 37 times in Serie A last term.
The Sicilians have also been busy in the transfer market, signing the talented Argentine duo of Javier Pastore and Nicolas Bertolo so far this summer.
