The tennis-style seeded draw for the 62nd edition of the Coppa Italia was held at Lega Calcio headquarters today, revealing the fixtures for the First Round and the potential match-ups all they way to the final.
A total of 78 teams, made up of the 42 Serie A and B, 27 Lega Pro and nine Serie D clubs, will enter at various stages of the 2009-10 tournament.
Except for the semi-finals, all rounds are decided by one match including the final which will take place on May 5, 2010.
The First Round, which kicks off on the weekend of August 2, has paired together the 36 clubs from Lega Pro and Serie D. Newly-relegated Rimini welcome fifth tier outfit Vico Equense, Perugia play Nocerina, Spezia host Verona and the lowest-ranked club Fano travel to Lumezzane in the opening round.
All 22 Serie B clubs will enter the tournament in the Second Round on August 9 while the first batch of Serie A clubs enter the fray in the Third Round on August 15. The remaining eight top-flight sides, including holders Lazio, open their cup campaign in the Fifth Round, to be played in November and December.
