Rimini have been relegated to the Lega Pro after losing 1-0 at home to Ancona in the second leg of the Serie B play-out final.
With Rimini only needing to avoid defeat on home soil following last weekend's 1-1 first leg draw, survival seemed to be in the Biancorosso's hands - even with the late equaliser they conceded then.
Despite the home side dominating the match, wasting numerous chances, it was Ancona who found the priceless goal with just 11 minutes to go on the clock. Danilo Soddimo's cross from the byline found an unmarked Salvatore Mastronunzio, who headed home the winner past Federico Agliardi.
The full time whistle at the Stadio Romeo Neri sparked the celebrations from the visitors, who remain in the second division following the late escape.
Rimini, meanwhile, drop back down into the third tier after five years in Serie B. They join automatically-relegated Avellino, Pisa and Treviso in Lega Pro 1 next term.
