Ancona kept hopes of their Serie B survival alive by snatching a late equaliser at home to Rimini in the first leg of the relegation play-out final.
The two sides go head-to-head in the hope of avoiding the same fate as already relegated Treviso, Avellino and Pisa face in Lega Pro 1 next season.
It didn't take long for Rimini to find a way through at the Stadio del Conero, as Biagio Pagano sprung the offside trap to drill a shot past Da Costa after just 15 minutes on the clock.
Ancona fought back with a Matias Miramontes free kick, while Emilio Docente had two counter-attacks go awry for the visitors.
The home side seemed done for but with three minutes to go, Salvatore Mastronunzio snatched a potentially decisive equaliser ahead of the second leg at the Stadio Romeo Neri on June 13.
In the event that the play-out final tie ends in an aggregate draw, the winner will be the highest positioned team in the league - 18th-placed Rimini. There is no away-goals rule, extra-time or penalties.
PLAY-OUT FINAL:
