Brescia fought back to earn a 1-1 draw at Empoli in the first leg of their play-off semi-final tie.
The Serie B promotion play-offs kicked off at the Stadio Castellani as fourth took on fifth with the aim to reach next week's two-legged play-off final.
It didn't take long to dive into the action, as within six minutes Empoli had broken the deadlock. Francesco Flachi knocked down a cross for Nicola Pozzi, who slipped in the box, but Francesco Lodi was quickest to react and turn in the loose ball.
The visitors bounced back with the equaliser after 24 minutes. Andrea Caracciolo nod a cross down for the on-rushing Roberto Baronio, who's right-footed shot beat Davide Bassi in the Empoli goal.
There were numerous chances for both sides in the second half, but the tie remains in the balance ahead of the return match at the Stadio Rigamonti on Thursday.
Sixth-placed Grosseto host third-placed Livorno in the other semi-final first leg tie later tonight.
In the event that a semi-final tie ends in an aggregate draw, the winner will be the highest positioned team in the league. There is no away-goals rule, extra-time or penalties.
