Orlandi accepts relegation blame

Reggina coach Nevio Orlandi offered no excuses following his side's relegation from Serie A with a defeat at Lazio on Wednesday which he felt was a microcosm of the season as a whole.

Nevio OrlandiOrlandi's men competed well at the Stadio Olimpico but a string of missed chances and the concession of a 26th-minute goal to Mauro Zarate saw them become the first team to drop into Serie B.

"The game against Lazio was a reflection of our campaign," said Orlandi. "We made lots of mistakes and missed lots of chances in front of goal."

Reggina successfully battled relegation in each of the last six seasons but were unable to stave it off this time round.

They have won just six and lost 19 of 37 games in the top-flight, scoring 29 times and conceding 61.

"We feel a lot of bitterness," said Orlandi. "We had hoped to avoid the drop.

"But this is all our fault."

Last night's disappointment means Reggina have just pride to play for when they host Siena in their final game of the season on May 31.
