UC - Last 16: Udinese reach quarters

Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 Udinese (Agg: 1-2)Udinese have reached the UEFA Cup quarter-finals after knocking out holders Zenit St Petersburg 2-1 on aggregate in Russia.

UEFA Cup holders Zenit St Petersburg are out of the competition after failing to build on Anatoliy Tymoshchuk's first-half opener against Udinese, who book their place in the last eight. Zenit captain Tymoshchuk gave the Petrovsky Stadium faithful tangible hope of their side wiping out the Zebrette's 2-0 first-leg lead when his header from Ivica Krizanac's knock back just crossed the line despite the efforts of goalkeeper Samir Handanovic just after the half-hour mark. The Russian side were under par in the second half, though, and could have been pegged back had goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev not kept Italy's only remaining European representatives at bay with a string of late saves.

A new name will be etched on to the last ever UEFA Cup in May after all four of the former winners who started the Round of 16 were knocked out.

With the holders Zenit crashing out against Pasquale Marino's side, 2005 winners CSKA Moscow, 1992 champions Ajax and the 2000 winners Galatasaray exited the competition at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk, Marseille and Hamburg respectively.

Elsewhere, Dynamo Kiev squeezed past Ukrainian rivals Metalist Kharkiv, Werder Bremen triumphed over Saint-Etienne, Paris Saint-Germain struck late to edge past Braga and Manchester City ended Aalborg's interest in the only penalty shoot-out of the round.

The draw for the last eight and last four takes place in Nyon on Friday at 1200 UK time (+1hr for Italy & CET). The final takes place on Wednesday 20 May at Fenerbahce's Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
