AC Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo is set to be out of action for up to two months after an ultrasound scan revealed that an injury suffered in training on Tuesday was a tear to the muscle in the 29-year-old's right thigh.
The Italian international missed Thursday's 3-1 home win against FC Zurich and will also miss the second leg of the UEFA Cup first round tie on 2 October.
He will also be unavailable for the first part of the group stage, should Milan make it, but the Milan giants received better news with Gennaro Gattuso now sufficiently recovered from a hand injury to play in Sunday's home game against Lazio.
The Rossoneri started their Serie A campaign with defeats against Bologna and Genoa.
