Juventus lost 1-0 to Piacenza on Tuesday as Olof Mellberg made his debut and the Amauri-David Trezeguet partnership failed to shine, while Napoli were held in their latest friendly test.
Piacenza took a surprise lead through Argentine Simon, who got in front of Nicola Legrottaglie to volley in Anaclerio's cross from the left.
Trezeguet thought he had equalised, but the goal was disallowed for an offside position.
Claudio Ranieri made six changes at the break and Serie B side Piacenza made 10, but the performance remained below par as Juventus go down to their first defeat of pre-season.
Meanwhile, Napoli drew 1-1 with Hungarian top flight side Zalaegerszeg, although were unlucky when German Denis thumped the post.
The Azzurri wanted a stern test ahead of Sunday's Intertoto Cup clash with Panionios and went to a team that was preparing for their domestic league season next weekend.
Meye set up the opener for Waltner on the half-hour mark and five minutes later wasted the chance to make it 2-0, blasting a penalty over the bar for Amodio's foul on Toth.
Inacio Pia wasted a good opportunity to equalise and eventually secured a draw for Napoli just before the break.
ThSummer signing Denis was again impressive, as he took part in a splendid team move that forced the Hungarian shot-stopper into a great save on Christian Maggio. In the final minutes Denis nodded a free kick on to the upright.
