[Mercato] Vargas and Comotto firm up Viola

Defenders Juan Manuel Vargas and Gianluca Comotto have been unveiled as Fiorentina's two latest signings.

Vargas, 24, has signed a five-year deal, while 29-year-old Comotto joins on a three-year contract.

The £9.5million transfer from Catania will mean Vargas will have to be struck off the transfer target list of a host of European clubs, reportedly including the likes of Real Madrid, after an impressive season in Serie A.

"I'm happy to arrive here in such an important side like Fiorentina. I can grow a lot here and I want to do this with this side," said Vargas.

For 29-year old Comotto, who's transfer fee has not been disclosed, he is no stranger to the Viola after once having a six-month loan spell with the Italian giants.

However, the former Torino defender struggled to make an impact and is desperate to restore the faith of the supporters.

"I had been here before for six months during an unhappy period of my career," Comotto said. "Now I want to show Fiorentina supporters who is the real Comotto."

The Tuscan club had already signed Alberto Gilardino, Felipe Melo and Stefan Jovetic this summer.
