Sampdoria coach Walter Mazzarri has ended speculation about his future by committing himself to the Blucerchiati until June 2010.
The 46-year-old, whose contract was due to expire in 2009, has signed the extension after leading the Genoa club to sixth place in Serie A and UEFA Cup qualification.
"I am delighted and would like to thank the club, the president and the supporters," Mazzarri said.
Sampdoria general manager Giuseppe Marrotta added: "This is an incentive to build on the progress of a season which has just ended wonderfully for us."
Mazzarri, who also said that any speculation about his future had been a "misunderstanding", took the helm last summer and guided Sampdoria into the UEFA Cup from the UEFA Intertoto Cup. They were knocked out in the first round.
He had arrived from Reggina and a successful battle against relegation in which the southern team overcame the handicap of an eleven-point penalty.
