Couto hit with ban

Parma defender Fernando Couto has been handed an additional three-game ban after the Lega Calcio disciplinary committee studied video footage of his foul on Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Couto received a straight red card for the foul during Parma's rescheduled Serie A match with Juventus on Wednesday night, receiving an automatic one-game ban in the process.

But on Thursday the disciplinary committee added three more games to his sentence after viewing what it called "a true and proper intentional punch to the face".

The Portuguese international has also been hit with a 5,000 euro fine for the offence.

He will now be unavailable until the final game of the season against Inter, dealing a blow to the Gialloblu's relegation battle.

Parma are one point above the relegation zone with five games remaining.
