Roma managing director Rosella Sensi believes her club is now among the elite of European football after eliminating Real Madrid last night.
The Giallorossi, who reached the final eight last season by knocking out Olympique Lyonnais, grabbed a 4-2 aggregate win over the Spanish champions.
"It is very satisfying to be here for two reasons – we are in the quarter-finals and it is for the second year running, so it shows consistency and that this club is becoming a firm fixture in Europe.
"The great thing about this side is the strength of the team. I saw them all come together and work hard as a unit," continued Sensi.
"The thing we have more than last season is certainly experience. There were new additions, but the group has remained the same and gelled even more."
Coach Luciano Spalletti noted the squad had been completed by the club and allowed him to have more options, but Sensi put the credit back into his hands.
"My directors and coach have done very well to choose the right players. The most talented don’t always settle in the best and so it’s an important balancing act."
The draw for the quarter-finals is on March 14 and Sensi has no intention of hoping for a 'soft' team.
"When you reach this stage there are no easy games. Real Madrid were considered the absolute favourites and we beat them, so we are happy with whoever we get."
