CL Last 16, 2nd Leg: Wednesday Review

Roma have reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the second successive season as second-half headers from Rodrigo Taddei and substitute Mirko Vucinic earned a memorable victory over ten-man Real Madrid in Spain.

Real Madrid 1-2 Roma (Agg: 2-4)
Despite winning 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico two weeks ago, the Romans were widely considered as outsiders against the Spanish Primera Division champions, who had bowed out in the last 16 of this competition in each of the last three years. Both teams had their chances in an open encounter, but the visitors came closest to opening the scoring in the first half with two stunning efforts from Alberto Aquilani - one hitting the woodwrok and the other saved by Iker Casillas. But the 71st-minute dismissal of Madrid defender Pepe finally tipped the balance in the Giallorossi's favour. Taddei duly headed the visitors in front two minutes later and, although Raul levelled minutes later, Vucinic, who had also hit the woodwork earlier, struck in added time to ensure it is Luciano Spalletti's side who take their place in the draw on 14 March.

OTHER RESULTS: Chelsea 3-0 Olympiakos (Agg: 3-0) / Porto 1-0 Schalke (Agg: 1-1, Pens: 1-4)
