Inter secure Viareggio title

Inter's Primavera youth team beat Empoli 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw to win the 2008 Viareggio tournament.

The Nerazzurri had to come back from behind twice in this replay after Monday's first match ended 1-1, with Mario Balotelli netting a brace to force extra time.

The marathon match ended after a shoot-out with goalkeeper Vid Belec making the decisive save from Hemmy after Inter converted all their spot kicks.

The Tuscans took an early lead through Arvia who beat Belec from the spot after a foul by Filippini. Inter's reply also came from the penalty spot as Balotelli converted after a foul on Siligardi.

Empoli restored their lead three minutes after the interval with Angella heading into the path of Caturano who hit a first time shot past Belec.

Balotelli then produced chance after chance in the second half. And after a magnificent overhead kick that hit the bar and post, 'Supermario' hit a second equaliser with an unstoppable long-range free kick that flew into the top corner.

Inter finished the final with nine players on the field after the dismissals of Filippini and N'Ze.

Both teams had chances in extra time before the onset of penalties and Belec's decisive save means the Nerazzurri's senior youth team lift the prestigious trophy for the fifth time in their history.
