Egypt have won the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana by beating Cameroon in the final - securing a place in next summer’s FIFA Confederations Cup where they could face Italy.
Mohamed Aboutrika scored the only goal of the game after 77 minutes, pouncing on a Rigobert Song defensive error to turn in Mohamed Zidan’s assist.
The Pharaohs become the first team to retain the trophy twice and celebrate a record sixth edition of the tournament.
As champions of the African continent, Egypt will travel to South Africa for the Confederations Cup in June 2009.
Italy take part as World champions, along with CONCACAF Gold Cup winners USA, AFC Asian Cup winners Iraq and Copa America victors Brazil.
South Africa are there as host nation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals, while there are places left over for the winner of the OFC Nations Cup in Oceania and the winner of the UEFA Euro 2008 trophy for a total of eight teams.
The tournament will take place from June 14 to June 28, 2009.
