Two late goals earned Juventus a 2-2 draw at 10-man Inter on Wednesday in the first leg of the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. In other ties, Roma battled to a 1-1 draw at Sampdoria while Udinese edged a five-goal thriller against Catania.
Argentine striker Julio Cruz headed Inter in front nine minutes after the half-time interval and turned in a cross from Cesar in the 74th minute to double the lead for the Nerazzurri.
Alessandro Del Piero pulled one back for Juve with 10 minutes remaining and Jean-Alain Boumsong, who is expected to leave Turin in the transfer window, levelled the score for Claudio Ranieri's men with a header five minutes from time.
Cruz almost snatched a win for Inter when he hit the post in the closing stages. The home side played almost the whole match a man short after defender Nicolas Burdisso was given a straight red card in the eighth minute for cutting down Del Piero as he charged on to goal.
The draw means the game is still wide open for the second leg in Turin next week.
Coppo Italia holders Roma battled to a 1-1 draw at Sampdoria in their first leg tie despite playing for over 70 minutes with 10 men.
The Giallorossi, who currently occupy second place in Serie A, had French defender Philippe Mexes dismissed in the 18th minute after he collected two yellow cards.
Samp finally made their numerical advantage count just after the hour mark when Reto Ziegler put them in front. But Mirko Vucinic levelled matters seven minutes later to give Luciano Spalletti's men the edge ahead of the return game in Rome.
Roma had to play without the support of their fans in Genoa after Italy's anti-hooliganism body banned supporters from the capital from attending after violence flared outside the Stadio Olimpico before their weekend victory over Catania in Serie A.
Catania lost again after going down 3-2 at Udinese in the first leg of their last eight encounter, Felipe grabbing the winner with 14 minutes remaining.
Damiano Ferronetti put the hosts ahead but efforts from Mariano Izco and Jorge Martinez turned the tie around in favour of the visitors.
The Sicilians could not hold on, though, with a Simone Pepe penalty bringing Udinese level before Felipe strucking the winner ahead of next week's return.
The final quarter-final first leg tie between Lazio and Fiorentina takes place on Thursday night.
