Coppa Italia: Round 4

Juventus slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Empoli in the first leg of their Round 4 meeting in the Coppa Italia.

Claudio Ranieri rang the changes to his Juve side and paid the price as struggling Empoli battled to a win in Tuscany.

The hosts took the lead on 19 minutes when Nicola Pozzi's header bounced down off the crossbar and over the line.

Empoli added a second goal early in the second half through Ignazio Abate before Juve had Sergio Almiron sent off.

Vincenzo Iaquinta nabbed a consolation for Juve 10 minutes from time which could prove crucial for the second leg, which is scheduled for Wednesday January 16, 2008.

The rest of the last 16 first leg ties will be played on several days over the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Lega Calcio have today confirmed that the Final of the Coppa Italia will be played in Rome's Stadio Olimpico. The competition will be decided over one match on Saturday 24 May, 2008.
