Serie B Week 6: Midweek Preview

The pace in the Cadetti can be unforgiving and tonight’s Week 6 fixtures will have come too soon for some sides.

Without a doubt, the match of the night is Bologna v Brescia at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. Serse Cosmi’s Rondinelle are not just top of Serie B with five wins from five, they have only conceded once all term, but Bologna are a side to fear. The Felsinei have slipped up twice so far, but they are starting to gel and have a terrifying hitman in Brazilian Adailton.

While it looks like a mouth-watering proposition on paper, the reality may be a tight affair. Neither side would be too disappointed with a draw as they both have likely three-point bankers at the weekend.

Avellino’s tough introduction to the second tier continues with a trip to the vast Stadio Bentegodi to face Chievo. Giuseppe Iachini’s Flying Donkeys are fresh from a 2-1 win at Frosinone and will be determined to repeat the dose against a side that has only found the net twice all season.

Mid-table outfits Modena and Rimini square up in an Emilia-Romagna derby. Both teams are coming off the back of disappointing defeats and will see this as a springboard. The Canarini have missed Nigerian star Stefano Chuka Okaka, who has been suspended, but will hope for more magic from wide man Raffaele Longo.

Spezia are already looking at games as six-pointers after losing one of their two points due to financial irregularities. The Eagles host Frosinone – a side they came up from Serie C with the season before last – and need to act fast as they are already two points adrift at the foot of the table.

Meanwhile, the miraculous Albinoleffe entertain Cesena looking to continue their unlikely unbeaten run and struggling Piacenza try to avoid defeat number five against Lecce.
