Napoli handed home ban

Napoli have been ordered to play Genoa behind closed doors on Sunday as punishment for the conduct of their fans during Wednesday's Serie A game against Livorno.

Azzurri fans displayed an offensive banner and threw a number of bottles onto the Stadio San Paolo pitch during their late 1-0 win.

It was reported that one of the bottles struck the referee’s assistant on the chest.

The incident is the latest in a series of recent problems caused by fans in Italy.

Last Sunday's derby match between Sampdoria and Genoa was marred by clashes between rival fans before kick off, while police arrested 66 Lazio fans on the same day.

The Lazio fans were caught armed with knives, machetes, clubs and knuckle-dusters, before leaving Rome to attend their team's game against Atalanta in Bergamo.

Italian football is still recovering from the death of a police officer at a Serie A game in Catania in February.
