Azzurri: Iaquinta replaces injured Toni

Luca Toni has left the Italy camp due to his injury, so Juventus striker Vincenzo Iaquinta was drafted in for the Ukraine trip.

Toni picked up a muscular strain while scoring a goal for Bayern Munich and had hoped to recover in time for the Euro 2008 qualifiers.

Ruled out of tonight’s clash with France, further tests showed he would not be fit for next Wednesday’s visit to Kiev either.

Toni will watch the San Siro match from the stands and then leave the Azzurri camp.

Coach Roberto Donadoni has called up Iaquinta as a late replacement. The Juventus forward was part of the 2006 World Cup winning squad and scored one goal in the tournament.

He has made a fine start to his Juve career, netting a brace in the opening 5-1 win over Livorno.
