CL Matchday 1: Wednesday Review

Inter's Champions League campaign began negatively as only Julio Cesar kept the scoreline down in their 1-0 defeat at Fenerbahce, while Roma had a strong start to their campaign as Simone Perrotta and Francesco Totti disposed of Dynamo Kiev.

GROUP G: Fenerbahce 1-0 Inter / PSV Eindhoven 2-1 CSKA Moscow
Fenerbahce produced a dominant display to open their Champions League Group G campaign with a well-earned win against Inter.

Key to the game were the performances of Alex and Deivid, the pair combining for the decisive goal before the break with Deivid firing in an acrobatic shot. Inter may have been depleted at the back but the Turkish side's showing could well have been enough to overcome the full-strength Italian title-holders.

The Nerazzurri will now have to beat Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven at the San Siro on Matchday 2 on October 3. PSV got off to a winning start against CSKA Moscow thanks to second-half strikes from summer signings Danko Lazovic and Kenneth Perez. A last-minute goal from Vagner Love was not enough to earn CSKA a point.

GROUP F: Roma 2-0 Dynamo Kiev / Sporting Lisbon 0-1 Manchester United
Roma continued their fine start to the season with a comfortable win against Dynamo Kiev in their opening fixture of Group F in Rome.

The result was rarely in doubt after Simone Perrotta had given the home side an early lead following a breathtaking move. The Ukrainian champions barely managed a shot in anger but it was not until 20 minutes from time when Roma, thanks to the almost inevitable goal from captain Francesco Totti, made the game safe.

The Giallorossi will travel to Manchester United on Matchday 2 and the English champions secured a tight win in Portugal tonight. Cristiano Ronaldo's diving header against his former club got United's European campaign off to a perfect start.

GROUP E: Barcelona 3-0 Olympique Lyon / Rangers 2-1 Stuttgart

GROUP H: Arsenal 3-0 Sevilla / Slavia Prague 2-1 Steaua Bucharest
