Gasperini: The fear is over

Genoa boss Gian Piero Gasperini admits that he was relieved after the big match with Napoli. "Finally all fears have passed."

The Rossoblu celebrated their return to Serie A after 12 years following the goalless draw at the Marassi and did not need the play-offs as Piacenza’s 1-1 draw with Triestina left a 10-point cushion between third and fourth.

"We are finally back in the top flight after a difficult week, but the fear is finally over," said Gasperini.

"I think both Genoa and Napoli were both hoping for an automatic promotion and we managed to obtain it, deservedly so," added the coach.

"We both played well today, as it was logical, and we tried to win until the end. Napoli started better, but then we managed to impose our football and the match was exciting right until the final whistle.

"The draw at Piacenza opened the door to the celebrations, we were very happy about this."

Gasperini’s side had to face some minor injury problems during the week, following the incredible defeat against 10-man Mantova in stoppages in Week 41.

"We worked hard to recuperate the entire squad, there still were a few players who weren’t at their best and we had to reshuffle the defence, but in the end everything went fine. Now we can finally celebrate," concluded Gasperini.
