Seedorf admires Milan spirit

Clarence Seedorf has won his fourth Champions League and says the key was Milan beating Liverpool at their own game.

"It was not the best match. We were very concentrated and we knew we couldn't make any mistakes against them," noted the Dutchman.

This Final had been painted as a challenge between the Rossoneri’s quality and Liverpool’s determination, but the Italians brought out some of their other characteristics in the 2-1 victory.

"Hard work makes it happen. We had such a great spirit this year. It was difficult to play our total game and we knew from the beginning they would close us, Kaka and me. They played well, but had no great chances."

Seedorf is the only man to have won the competition with three different clubs – Ajax and Real Madrid before his two for Milan.

He joined his teammates in noting this was a particularly special trophy considering they were originally excluded due to the Calciopoli trial and had to go through a hastily-arranged preliminary round.

"I am so proud to be part of this team. We worked hard this year, a very difficult year. Liverpool had a lot of fighting spirit and were more aggressive, but in the second half we had the better of the game."
