Blatter praises Milan win

FIFA President Sepp Blatter hailed Milan’s "deserved victory" a year after Italy won the World Cup.

"Definitely Milan’s victory was deserved over 90 minutes," said Blatter, who was famously critical of Italian football and refused to hand over the trophy to the Azzurri in Berlin.

"I am very happy to be present in this great festival of European football with two sides who played a particularly great second half."

The Rossoneri – who fielded seven Italians in the starting XI and nine in total – saw off Liverpool 2-1 in the Champions League Final in Athens.

"Today we saw how football is all about emotion and the fans were marvellous. I am content to say that the best team won and straight after the final whistle I personally invited President Silvio Berlusconi and Milan for the Intercontinental Cup."

They will challenge the winners of the other continental trophies in Tokyo in December.
