Ascoli have fired coach Attilio Tesser after the 1-0 home defeat to Empoli on Sunday, which left them just one place above the relegation zone.
The Bianconeri have earned only four points after 11 matches and the latest slip up convinced President Roberto Benigni to show the tactician the door.
This was despite him saying on Sunday that the Coach would stay at least until the end of the season, seeing as he was doing all he could in the circumstances.
Tesser has worked with the Udinese and Venezia youth teams, before taking charge at Triestina and Cagliari. He landed in Ascoli in May 2006, where he replaced Marco Giampaolo.
The outfit has not yet named his replacement, but for the time being assistant manager Mark Strukelj has been promoted.
Nedo Sonetti is currently the favourite to replace Tesser on the Ascoli bench.
