Parma, Palermo and Livorno have all been handed tough groups after today’s UEFA Cup draw in Nyon.
Although Parma were amongst the top seeds given their recent European pedigree, they’ve been placed in Group D with Lens of France, Holland’s Heerenveen, Osasuna of Spain and Danish minnows Odense.
Palermo, conquerors of West Ham in the first round, will play English oposition again after they were placed in Group H with Newcastle United. Spain’s Celta Vigo, Fenerbahce of Turkey and Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany make up their section.
UEFA Cup debutants Livorno may also struggle to reach the next phase after they were grouped with Ligue 1 side Auxerre, Scottish giants Rangers, Partizan Belgrade and Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa.
The top three from each group will qualify for the next round. Teams will only play each other once - two games at home, and two away.
